Now on, businesses like Facebook, Google, Amazon will have to pay VAT and taxes. A High Court dual bench of Justice Md Ashraful Kamal and Justice Rajik Al Jalil delivered the verdict on Sunday.

The first part of the five-point directive of the court said that all internet service providers such as Google-Facebook, YouTube, Amazon should pay all kinds of taxes, VAT and other revenue from the money paid according to the prevailing law of Bangladesh.

Relevant government departments including National Board of Revenue, Bangladesh Bank and BTRC have been directed to implement the order. In addition, Internet-based companies have been asked to collect arrears of revenue from Bangladesh over the past five years.
